Tax fairness bill signed into law
From Hawai'i Appleseed Center, July 13, 2015
On July 9, Governor Ige signed Senate Bill 555, which will increase the food/excise tax credit for the first time in nearly a decade.
Hawai‘i has the highest cost of living in the country, including the most expensive groceries. At the same time, our low-income residents have the second highest state tax burden in the nation.
Hawai‘i Appleseed has strongly advocated for tax credits to provide important relief for families who are struggling under our regressive tax system.
This increase in the credit will make our tax system fairer by helping these families make ends meet.
