PUBLIC NOTICE
News Release from HPD, April 9, 2015
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is scheduled for an on-site assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The international accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, the public is invited to phone in comments by calling (808) 723-3800 on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public may also attend a public comment session that same day at 5 p.m. in the HPD's Community Affairs Division Conference Room located on the first floor of the Alapai headquarters, 801 South Beretania Street. Limited street parking is available. Persons wanting to submit written comments may write to the CALEA at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155; or visit their Web site at www.calea.org.
Telephone comments and appearances at the public comment session will be limited to ten minutes and must address the HPD's ability to comply with the CALEA's standards of accreditation. A copy of the standards is available for review at the HPD's Professional Standards Office located in the Alapai headquarters. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For more information, please call the Professional Standards Office at (808) 723-3775.
