MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

State Office of Planning Hosting a Series of Stakeholder Meetings to Discuss Improvements to the State’s Land Use System

News Release from State Office of Planning

The State Office of Planning is holding meetings on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii and Kauai to hear from interested stakeholders on the effectiveness of the State’s land use system. These meetings may be of particular interest to land owners, developers, farmers, conservationists, planners and others who have had or will have experience with State land use, district boundary amendments, and special permit matters.

Meetings will include an overview of the State’s land use system and participants will be asked to share their land use system experiences and offer ideas for improving the State’s land use system.

Meetings are planned for:

  • November 20, 2014, 6 – 8 pm -- Washington Middle School, Honolulu
  • November 25, 6 – 8 pm -- Maui Planning Commission Conference Room, Wailuku
  • December 2, 2014, 5:30 – 7:30 pm -- Aupuni Center Conference Room, Hilo
  • December 3, 2014, 6 – 8 pm -- Natural Energy Lab Hawaii Conference Room, Kona
  • December 10, 2014, 6 – 8 pm -- Kauai Planning Commission Conference Room, Lihue

The Office of Planning, the State’s planning agency, is responsible for statewide comprehensive and regional planning, including representing the State’s interests in land use matters before the State Land Use Commission, such as the reclassification of land. The Office works closely with counties and other state agencies to evaluate whether proposed projects and reclassifications heard by the Land Use Commission “preserve, protect and encourage the development of the lands in the State for those uses to which they are best suited for the public welfare.” (L. 1961, c 187, § 1)
