HAWAII CONSERVATIVES ATTEND HAWAII REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY'S VETERANS DAY WEEKEND FUNDRAISER FEATURING NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION (NRA) PRESIDENT JIM PORTER
News Release from HIRA November 8, 2014
Tonight at the Pearl Country Club, the conservative Hawaii Republican Assembly (HIRA) hosted a sold out dinner -- "An Evening with Jim Porter of the NRA" -- billed as a post-election celebration of American constitutional rights, the veterans who have served to protect those rights, and the nationwide political success of Republicans resulting in newfound control of the U.S. Senate and an increased majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
HIRA’s Veterans Day themed event featured keynote speaker Jim Porter, the president of the five million member National Rifle Association (NRA) which was one of the principal organizations behind the 2014 political strategy that resulted in major Republican gains across the country.
HIRA’s event also paid tribute to specific veterans, including retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and longtime Hawaii resident Gayle Gardner, who currently serves as president of the U.S. War Veterans Foundation. At 16, Gardner convinced a former World War II pilot to give him flying lessons after years of asking. He later joined the Air Force, working his way up as a commissioned officer. It took him only three years from being in a fighter squadron to being assigned to Headquarters United States Air Force. Following his career in the military, Gardner enjoyed success in the private sector; co-founding a no-load mutual fund in the U.S. and also co-founding a cargo airline company.
The room was filled with 125 conservative campaigners, party leaders, 2nd amendment rights supporters, and dozens of other activists looking to improve life in the islands through bringing last Tuesday’s political victories to Hawaii’s shores in future elections.
The fundraising event was organized for the benefit of the Hawaii Republican Assembly's political superpac HIRA Action. The proceeds from “An Evening with Jim Porter” will be strategically utilized for ramping up HIRA's political communications in 2014 and beyond so that Hawaii conservatives have a voice in legislation, policymaking and elections.
