Zombies, Vampires, and the Jones Act: Grassroot Institute Halloween Series Takes a Spooky Look at Policy

From Grassroot Institute

HONOLULU, HAWAII--Oct. 31, 2014--How does the Jones Act make Hawaii vulnerable to the Zombie Apocalypse? What would a vampire say about the transformation of American politics? Do serial killers benefit from restrictive gun laws? These are the questions asked by a special Halloween-themed series of articles from the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.

Though the series is clearly tongue-in-cheek and meant to be read in the spirit of the holiday, Grassroot's Halloween articles still touch on a number of issues of interest to the people of Hawaii. The holiday series includes four articles:

The Top 5 Ways the Jones Act has left Honolulu Vulnerable to the Zombie Apocalypse

Grassroot's Interview with a Vampire

Gun Control on Elm Street

Retired Government Employees Haunting for More Paychecks

"Few people realize that in addition to being committed to defending free market principles and liberty in Hawaii, the Grassroot Institute is also firmly anti-zombie," joked Keli'i Akina, Ph.D., President of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii. "We hope that others find our Halloween series fun, funny, and maybe a little thought-provoking. After all, if ghosts, vampires, and zombies persuade people to re-examine the Jones Act or our pension system, then we've accomplished what we set out to do."

You can view the entire Halloween series on the Grassroot Institute website at: http://new.grassrootinstitute.org/.
