The Differences Between Djou and Takai - Our Latest Commercial

Message to Supporters from Djou Campaign

Aloha,  October 28, 2014

Desperate to win this election, our opponent, Mark Takai, is willing to say anything to win - even if it's not true. Takai is counting on the adage that a lie told often enough becomes accepted as truth. With just 7 days to go, we need your help to fight back now.

Instead of talking about his plan to reduce the cost of living, create jobs, or tackle homelessness, our opponent has instead resolved to spend his resources airing television commercials that falsely state Charles' positions and record.

  • Social Security - Our opponent says Charles wants to cut Social Security and Medicare.  The truth is Charles has never voted to cut Social Security or Medicare.  Our opponent, however, has voted to raid the state retirement fund and to institute a pension tax.
  • Schools - Our opponent says Charles blocked funding for schools.  The truth is Charles has always supported our children and schools.  The bill he cites (HR 1586) would have increased school funding by cutting food stamps for the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society.  Unlike our opponent, Charles believes there is a better way to fund schools.
  • Food Safety - Our opponent says Charles opposes food safety. He bases this on a comment Charles made 5 years ago about the City bus program.  He extrapolates stimulus funds for buses to food safety. Unlike our opponent, we would never distort another person's record just to win an election.
  • Partisanship - Our opponent's supporters say Charles votes lock step with his political party.  The truth is Charles' voting record has been carefully scrutinized and he's referred to as a moderate and centrist by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Honolulu Civil Beat and the National Journal.

Is someone who would distort another person's record to win an election the type of leader we want to represent us?

We need your help to fight back against these lies.  Without your financial support immediately, our opponent will get away with these distortions of Charles' record.

Today we respond with our newest commercial that clearly lays out the differences between Charles and our opponent.  You can see the clear differences between them here.

We have just 7 days to go!  Please help us fight back in these closing days with a contribution of $25, $50, or whatever you can afford.

Aloha,

Team Djou
