OHA HELPS LAUNCH CANDIDATE MATCH GAME TO ENGAGE VOTERS AND SPARK INTEREST IN ELECTION

News Release from OHA, October 9, 2014

HONOLULU – The Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Kanu Hawai‘i, a grassroots organization, have teamed up to help voters find out which local candidates they agree with most on a range of top issues.

Using a new online game created by OHA and Kanu Hawai‘i, voters are now able to take a short quiz that reveals which candidate in the Nov. 4 General Election is their best match based on their own political opinions.

OHA and Kanu Hawai‘i developed a candidate questionnaire and used candidate responses to devise the new matchmaking tool, which allows voters to see candidate stances that most closely align with their views.

The interactive game is part of a larger effort by OHA and Kanu Hawai‘i to heighten interest in the statewide elections as well as to get more Native Hawaiians and others to vote in statewide elections.

“Our hope is that this interactive tool provides voters with confidence that they can vote for candidates who are aligned with their beliefs,” said Kamana’opono Crabbe, the Ka Pouhana and Chief Executive Officer at OHA. “What we’re telling voters with this game is to ‘find your match and vote.’”
