Kauai County offers consultation to taxpayers
News release from County of Kauai August 11, 2014
LĪHU‘E – The County’s Real Property Assessment Division is offering assistance to residents who want to better understand changes they’ve experienced this year to their real property tax bills.
“We’ve taken literally hundreds of inquiries over the past three weeks and have explained to each taxpayer in great detail why their taxes may have increased,” stated Director of Finance Steven A. Hunt. “Due to a variety of changes that are going into effect this year, each circumstance is unique and is best explained one-on-one. Oftentimes we are able to identify an exemption or relief program that the taxpayer wasn’t aware of that could help their situation.”
Real Property personnel are available during normal business hours (7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), either at the Kapule Building at the Līhu‘e Civic Center or by phone at (808) 241-4224. For those who can’t make time during the work day, real property staff will be happy to schedule an appointment after hours.
“Just call 241-4224, and we’ll find a convenient time for a consultation,” stated Hunt, adding that questions should be posed as soon as possible, since some relief programs have an application deadline date of September 30, 2014.
