TWO CANDIDATES SUPPORTED BY FORWARD PROGRESS WIN RACES OUTRIGHT

HONOLULU, HI (Aug. 11, 2014) – Two out of the five county and city council candidates supported by Forward Progress, an independent expenditure committee, won their races outright in Saturday’s primary election. Three other candidates move forward in run-offs to be held during the Nov. 4 General Election. The victories came on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island. They are clear evidence that voters support candidates who are committed to making the Islands a desirable and affordable place to live, work and raise their families.
On Oahu, Honolulu City Council candidate Brandon Elefante won the open District 8 seat outright capturing 11,518 votes – more than 64 percent of the votes cast.
Hawaii County Council candidate Maile David-Medeiros won her 6th District race outright securing nearly 67 percent of all votes – or 2,394 votes total.
Three other candidates advance to the Nov. 4 General Election:
· Ka’ala Buenconsejo, Maui County Council, West Maui – 7,645 votes
· Ronald Gonzales, Hawaii County Council, District 9 – 1,084
· Tiffany Edwards Hunt, Hawaii County Council, District 5 – 962 votes
