ENDORSEMENT LETTER:  Why I'm Encouraging Everyone to Vote for Dr. Keli'i Akina...

Dear friends and family,    July 26, 2014

From time to time there is a candidate who is really worth supporting. One such candidate is Dr. Keli'i Akina, who is running for Trustee-at-Large for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

While some people are under the impression that voting for OHA trustees is only for Hawaiians by blood, in reality, all registered voters have the right and duty to vote for OHA trustees in the primary and general elections.

In this election, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Efforts are underway from different quarters to establish an independent sovereign Hawaiian nation in Hawaii.  Ironically, most Hawaiians reject these efforts.  And dividing people by race goes against everything we stand for as Americans.

Of the 22 candidates running in the 2014 election to become trustees in the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, only Dr. Keli'i Akina rejects the idea of an independent Hawaiian nation and affirms that United States citizenship is the best solution for the needs of Native Hawaiians and all people of Hawaii. This information is now on record as part of several candidate surveys (See this news article:  Keli'i Akina Only OHA Candidate to Reject Independent Hawaiian Nation)

Dr. Akina’s views have earned him many endorsements such as Veterans in Politics (2012) and in 2014: Duke Aiona, SHOPO (State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers), and many Native Hawaiians such as champion water sportsman & Hall of Fame recipient, Archie Kalepa.

I assure you that Dr. Akina is the trustee candidate you can support, even if this is the first time you are voting for an OHA candidate.  Dr. Akina is passionately committed to providing education, housing, and economic opportunity for the Hawaiian community, but he is also absolutely committed to the Aloha spirit for everyone in Hawai’i. He stands for uniting all of Hawaii's people, rather than dividing us!

Dr. Akina also stands out from the entire pack with his high level of education, his 31 years of leadership in Youth for Christ, and his commitment to all of Hawai’i's people. He is a man of deep faith, integrity, and proven leadership ability.  He's also a family man who, with his wife Patty, has raised four children.

I urge you to vote for this man whom Hawai’i needs at this crucial time, and urge your friends and family to do so.

Here's a great quick interview Hawaii News Now did with Keli'i: HNN Dr Kelii Akina Interview
