Today on The Fix, we're launching a new project that has been several months in the making. It's our list of the top 40 political rising stars who are under 40 years old.
This list focuses on people who have made names for themselves outside of Washington, D.C. -- state-level politicians, mayors, local officials and operatives -- but could soon be known to all of us. We sought advice from more than 100 different sources from all across the United States and gradually pared it down to 40 names....

WHY YOU SHOULD REMEMBER THIS NAME
No, Hawaii isn’t exactly a breeding ground for Republican stars, but if any Republican can succeed in the Aloha State, it could be Fukumoto. At 31, she serves as state House Republicans’ floor leader, and she was named by the Daily Beast as one of nine women reshaping the Republican Party. She was also named to the RNC’s Women on the Right Unite program....
