Chairman Saiki Calls for House Oversight Chairman Issa to Investigate Hawaii Health Connector’s Use of $204 Million in Taxpayer Dollars
News Release from Hawaii Republican Party
HONOLULU - (April 22, 2014) – In a letter to U.S. Representative Darrel Issa, Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Hawaii Republican Party Chairman Pat Saiki requested that Hawaii be included in a multi-state Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation into Obamacare exchanges, as little transparency has been provided in regard to the Hawaii Health Connector’s use of $204 million in taxpayer monies. Chairman Saiki sent the letter after State Senator Sam Slom last week received contradictory responses from GAO representatives in regard to his formal investigation request.
“Governor Abercrombie’s plagued health connector has missed deadlines, been fraught with problems, and cost taxpayers over $204 million dollars – roughly $26 thousand per enrollee. This kind of reckless spending of our hard-earned tax dollars is simply unacceptable,” said Chairman Saiki. “Since Senator Slom’s efforts to hold our government accountable continue to be hampered by political brinkmanship, I hope Oversight Chairman Issa will provide guidance to the GAO.”
Chairman Saiki’s letter was mailed to Chairman Issa via the Committee on Oversight and Government Relations in the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
