Video: Freedom and Film
From Grassroot Institute, March 22, 2014
The latest ThinkTech video takes a look at the intersection of political philosophy and art through an interview with Chuck Boller, Director Emeritus of the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF).
With HIFF’s Spring Showcase just around the corner, this is an interesting time to reflect on the way that film reflects cultural differences. Mr. Boller notes that the Festival’s dedication to bringing in diverse points of view gives the audience an experience that might not necessarily be reflected in more mainstream Hollywood movies. He and Dr. Akina further ponder the role of art and film in building freedom as well as the role of the cinema in perpetuating a deeper understanding of the complexities of world affairs.
