Natalie Iwasa Makes City Council Run Official

First Candidate to File Nomination Papers

News Release from Iwasa for Council

(Honolulu, Hawaii), February 6, 2014 – Natalie Iwasa, Hawaii Kai resident and certified public accountant, was joined by supporters this morning at Honolulu Hale as she officially filed nomination papers and was sworn in for her Honolulu City Council run. She hopes to replace Stanley Chang who will vacate his District 4, East Oahu, seat to run for U.S. Congress.

“I’m excited that today I am officially a candidate for the Honolulu City Council because this is a huge milestone in my years of community service,” Iwasa said. “Between now and the election, my goal is to really get out there, meet people in my district and listen to their concerns.”

Iwasa, known to many as ‘Bike Mom,’ is a staple at nearly every city council hearing and currently serves on the Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board. She has served on various state and county committees, including the City and County of Honolulu Real Property Tax Advisory Commission and the Stakeholder Advisory Committee for Statewide Long-Range Land Transportation Plan.

Iwasa said her top priorities for both her district and Honolulu County as a whole are budget, transparency and accountability, and land use and infrastructure. If elected, she said she plans to use her over 20 years of experience as a CPA and forensic accountant to bring fiscal responsibility and transparency to the forefront.
