FLAGS TO FLY AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR OF U.S. ARMY SOLDIER EDWARD BALLI

HONOLULU – As a mark of respect for the memory of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Edward Balli, Gov. Neil Abercrombie has ordered that the flags of the United States and State of Hawaii shall be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaii National Guard, from sunrise to sunset on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, the day of his memorial service.

“Edward was valued by his fellow ‘Dragons’ as much for his kindness as his strength of leadership,” Gov. Abercrombie said. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.”

Balli, 42, of Kapolei, was killed in an insurgent attack in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, on Jan. 20. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army Europe, Vilseck, Germany in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
