Hawaii: Committee to Hear Multiple Pro-Hunting Bills This Week
From NRA-ILA January 27, 2014
This Wednesday, January 29, the House Committee on Water and Land is scheduled to hear several important hunting bills. Among those bills to be heard is House Bill 1902, introduced by state Representative Cindy Evans (D-7), which would integrate a no net loss policy for public hunting lands in Hawaii. This legislation would require the state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) to preserve the aggregate amount of designated public hunting land available for use by sportsmen. In the event that the BLNR reduces the amount of available public hunting land, they must in turn provide alternative land for hunting of equal or greater amount and quality of wildlife habitat. Also to be heard in committee on Wednesday is House Bill 1903, legislation designating September as outdoor heritage month in Hawaii and House Bill 1905, which seeks to create a youth hunter participation program.
Please contact members of the House Committee on Water and Land and respectfully urge them to support this pro-hunting legislation in the Aloha State. Contact information for members of the House Committee on Water and Land can be found here.
Last week, House Bill 1907 was unanimously passed in the House Committee on Water and Land. This pro-hunting legislation will allow qualified veterans to apply for a lifetime hunting license, a fantastic way to show our appreciation for their service.
Your NRA-ILA will keep you up to date as House Bill 1907 and other pro-hunting legislation progresses through the state legislature.
