UH West O'ahu to refund certain student fees
News Release from University of Hawaiʻi Jan 21, 2014
The University of Hawai’i--West O'ahu (UHWO) will be refunding certain student fees collected during the 2013 Fall semester for transportation, technology and health services. The refund will total $64.00 per student.
Students in good standing who paid these fees directly will receive a refund. Refunds for students receiving financial aid whose fees were paid by a third party will be sent directly to the source of the financial aid or original payor.
UHWO staff will review the payment records of 2,400 students to determine which are eligible for refunds and where the refunds will be directed. Therefore, the exact amount of the refunds is not known at this time.
UHWO is now actively working to establish and offer to Spring 2014 students the transportation, technology and health services that these fees were implemented to support.
This unusual situation in which approved fees were charged for services before the services existed arose as UHWO staff and student government were working to establish completely new student services at the brand new UHWO campus. No other mandatory fees that students are required to pay for existing services, whether or not each student utilizes these services, will be refunded.
The UHWO administration sincerely regrets any inconvenience or concern caused by this situation, and asks for understanding and support as we continue to develop and grow one of the UH’s newest crown jewels: the University of Hawai’i--West O’ahu.
