Animal Abusers Belong in Prison, Not Public Office
by Animal Lover, Daily KOS, December 18, 2013 (Diary since deleted)
It's a fact: cruelty to animals is an "indicator of a dangerous psychopathy that does not confine itself to animal abuse." In fact, according to FBI profiler Robert K. Ressler who coined the term "serial killer," “Murderers … very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids.”
As noted by PETA:
Animal abuse is not just the result of a minor personality flaw in the abuser—it is a symptom of a deep mental disturbance. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty toward animals rarely stop there; many of them move on to their fellow humans.
Multiple studies have found this clear link between animal abuse and psychopathic behavior later in life.
Given such a clear relationship between cruelty to animals (even as a child) and mental disturbance/psychopathy, a record of abusing animals should be an immediate disqualifier for public office.
Unfortunately, Senator Brian Schatz has just such a record. In college, he led a fraternity charged with engaging in cruelty to animals by the local humane society.

His college's student newspaper reported:
"The Phi Delta fraternity [led by Brian Schatz] has been charged with engaging in cruelty to animals by the Pomona Valley Humane Society after a Campus Security officer found a sheep locked in a social room closet being used by the fraternity....
"After a student in Clark V [dorm hall] reported hearing the bleating of a sheep in the basement of the dormitory, Campus Security arrived to cut the lock and free the animal, which was confined to small room [sic] also housing eight empty beer kegs. The Humane Society is currently examining the sheep to see if it has been sexually molested."
In fact, the newspaper notes that "according to the security officer who freed the animal, there was a locked door between the sheep and the food and water the fraternity had left for it."
The incident resulted in the fraternity disciplined and helped lead Pomona College to shut down all fraternities.
It is disgusting that Senator Schatz has such a history of hazing (bullying), animal abuse and bestiality.
What's worse is that he has never bothered to address it or even apologized for his conduct.
Such a man does not belong in public office.

Typical comments:
“I note that the diarist, who joined today, has recc'd nothing but pro-Hannabusa (sic) diaries, going back to July.”
“This diary is an obvious hit-job on Schatz by someone who fancies themselves a supporter of Hanabusa. However, the obvious nature of the hit job and its intent does Hanabusa no good and only serves to engender ill will towards her candidacy. Not a bright move.”
NOTE: This could be a hit job against Hanabusa from the Schatz campaign.
