Chang: Democrats Disrespect People, Republicans are Listening
By David S Chang @ 5:42 PM :: 4930 Views :: Republican Party

Chairman Chang's Corner

Aloha!                 November 7, 2013

This past week, the State Legislature returned to the capitol for the special session that Governor Abercrombie called. It was very clear from the people who testified about the bill that this issue is personal for so many. In the op-ed I wrote for the Star Advertiser last month, I emphasized that as Republicans, we value transparency in government and believe that the people should be given the opportunity to decide on this issue.

Despite the fact that thousands of people showed up to the capitol last week and the majority of the 5,000 testimonies were in opposition to the bill, the Democrat super majority has clearly chosen to ignore the will of the people. It was disheartening to see key Democratic leaders scoff at and openly disrespect Hawaii citizens who exercised their right to testify. I am disappointed with these leader's attitudes; the people of Hawaii deserve better.

The last ten days have reminded us all that this is why we need a strong two-party system in Hawaii: to restore the value of a true representative government. I am thankful to have met many of you who have decided to become involved with the Hawaii Republican Party. E Komo Mai! We look forward to working with you to build a better Hawaii for future generations!

While the Democrats in the legislature were ignoring their constituents, here at the HRP we were listening to our members. Thank you to those who completed the online member survey our staff circulated and we look forward to sharing the results with you all in the next newsletter. If you missed it, please click here to share your thoughts with us!

As always, we are so grateful for your continued support. We are now less than a year away from the 2014 elections and your time, ideas, hard work and financial contributions are more important than ever. If you would like to find out how you can help, stop by HRP headquarters or contact us at 593-8180. We simply cannot do it without you!

Mahalo!
