HRP Statement on Looming Government Shutdown
News Release from Hawaii Republican Party September 30, 2013
HONOLULU- Hawaii Republican Party (HRP) Chairman David Chang released the following statement today on the looming federal government shutdown.
“It’s unfortunate that Senate Democrats in Washington are playing politics with Americans' paychecks. A government shutdown would mean thousands of Hawaii workers left without pay and even more visitors shut out of Hawaii’s national parks and memorials. Our own Senators refuse to rise above partisan politics to protect Hawaii workers.
Senator Schatz’s own office has indicated that 25,000 federal workers throughout the state would be left without pay, yet he and Senator Hirono have voted in lockstep with Harry Reid to reject House resolutions rather than stand up for the people of Hawaii.
No one wants to see the government shut down. Failure to listen and lead is irresponsible, and the people of Hawaii deserve better. Time is running out and our Senators must act now.”
The HRP urged voters to call Senator Schatz (202-224-3934) and Senator Hirono’s (202-224-6361) offices to urge them to protect Hawaii workers and stop the shutdown tonight.
