Hawaii.gov Ranked Among Top 10 State Government Websites

Hawaii's newly redesigned web portal and department websites recognized in the Center for Digital Government's Best of the Web awards

News Release from NIC Inc

HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 17, 2013-- Hawaii's eGovernment web portal http://hawaii.gov and department websites were recognized as a Finalist for best government website by The Center for Digital Government in its annual Best of the Web competition.

The competition, which recognizes significant achievement in the overall web presence of state and local governments, evaluated Hawaii's site in a wide range of categories including overall innovation, web-based delivery of public services, accessibility, efficiency and functionality.

State CIO Sony Bhagowalia said, "This is the first time the state is serving up a web portal made for the people of Hawaii. Our team has made the site accessible, beautiful, clean, useful and everything in between. Hawaii will serve its citizens their government, their way."

When the new Hawaii.gov portal was deployed in April of this year, it was widely recognized as one of the most attractive and innovative government sites in the US. It is designed for mobile with a touch-first responsive web design. Built for touch, speech, and with accessibility for all users, the new design showcases the very best in Web design thinking. Highlighting Hawaii's diversity, native culture, and the uniqueness of each island, Hawaii.gov also provides a Web experience that truly reflects the Aloha State.

The Office of Information Management and Technology collaborated with the state's Internet portal provider, Hawaii information Consortium LLC (HIC), a wholly owned subsidiary of NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV), to redesign Hawaii.gov and modernize the department websites as part of the state's larger web modernization initiative, which launched earlier this year. Like the portal, departments' websites were revamped and standardized using open source technology, and showcase the cultural heritage of Hawaii.

"This enterprise-wide rethinking of Hawaii's government websites was a huge shift to being much more citizen focused," said HIC's General Manager, Russell Castagnaro, "Just hang on to your seatbelts, we are planning to make more jaw-dropping changes before the end of the year."
