GOP: Make Your Voice Heard in Special Session
By David S Chang @ 2:34 PM :: 7555 Views :: Family, Hawaii State Government, Republican Party

Message to Supporters from GOP Chair David Chang:

I would like to first offer my condolences for all those affected by the tragic shooting this morning in Washington Navy Yard. These senseless acts unfortunately remind us that we live in a dangerous world, but also show us the true compassion and courage we as Americans always seem to display in the face of horrible violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

Last week I appeared on Sunrise on Hawaii News Now to talk about the special session that Governor Abercrombie is pushing through starting October 28. In addition to the extra costs incurred by the taxpayer, we are concerned with the lack of transparency. The special session will stifle public input and likely limit changes made to the bill despite testimony because the legislature will be rushing to meet the governor's shortened time frame. Normally, the legislative session is 60 days; a special session on this issue may last only 5 days. Our state faces a lot of important issues-- lack of school bus transportation and dilapidated school facilities, etc.-- but the governor doesn't call special sessions to allocate more funds or improve procurement laws to fix those issues. It is important that your voice be heard. This debate should be in public and suggestions and changes to the legislation should be transparent. I encourage everyone to get involved. Please contact your legislators and the Governor. You can also click here to read an editorial written by the House Caucus in yesterday's Star Advertiser.

I also invite you to join me every Thursday at 7AM on the Mike Buck Show at 690 KHNR! Every week we will talk about the important issues our state faces and how the Hawaii Republican Party will continue to fight for Hawaii's families and their future. You may call in to participate at 296-5467.

Lastly, there are several ways to get involved in the HRP this fall. It is important that our party stay involved in the community. Please join us for the Senior Fair on September 27th to September 29th and help man our booth! We want to make sure that people see our party is alive and well and motivated to work towards a better Hawaii. Please contact HRP HQ (808-593-8180) for more information.

Or, if you are on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, we need your help! The HRP is seeking tech-savvy supporters to join our Digital Team. This initiative is critical for helping us spread our message statewide and nationally. Please contact Kayla at kayla@gophawaii.com for more information.

We are also looking for high school and college students seeking internships! If you or someone you know is interested in helping our party and gaining valuable hands-on experience, please contact Kayla for more information.

Stay tuned for great opportunities to be involved in our party, community, and state! Thank you very much for your continued support.

Mahalo,
