CHAMINADE’S ENROLLMENT AT RECORD LEVEL AS NEW ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINS
--New Four-year Guarantee Fuels Historic Growth---
News Release from Chaminade University August 28, 2013
When Chaminade University began its new academic year with classes starting on Monday, it welcomed an unprecedented level of new and returning undergraduate students. With enrollment at the historic level of 1,325 undergraduate students, university officials are crediting a new four-year guarantee that was launched during the summer.
“Parents in particular have warmly greeted the new four-year guarantee,” stated Chaminade’s Enrollment Dean Joy Bouey. The four-year guarantee applies to all full-time degree-seeking students who enter Chaminade’s campus undergraduate program (day undergraduate program). “We believe that students and their families deserve to be able to count on a timetable of four years for a college education.”
The purpose of the four-year guarantee is to facilitate a student’s goal to graduate in four years (or less) with a Bachelor’s degree through an agreement with Chaminade University. If Chaminade does not meet its part of the agreement, the cost of the remaining required coursework for completion of the degree will be provided by the university at no cost to the student.
If a major or graduation requirement is not offered in the final year of study, Chaminade will enable the student to graduate in four years by completing the course via independent study or by substituting a discipline and division offering the student’s major. In the event a suitable course is not available, Chaminade will cover the cost of remaining required coursework for completion of the degree. Embarking on a plan to improve both retention and graduation rates, Chaminade has a unique niche as an access institution. About half of the undergraduate population are first generation students (first in the family to attend college). Some 96% of Chaminade’s undergraduates receive scholarships, Pell grants or other financial aid. According to a recent study, Chaminade University boasts the most ethnically diverse student body in the nation.
