Former Officer Calls for Inquiry into HPD Killings
Dear Editor, August 9, 2014
When I was a Kid growing up in Palolo Housing, I longed to become a policeman. When I reached twenty-one, I became one. “Perhaps”, the First Black American Detective Sergeant Policeman in HPD, and no doubt the First Black American HPD Policeman of the Year in 1973.
Within the past year HPD has shot and killed roughly six human beings. Were the policemen involved justified in their actions? Was such force necessary? These police shootings bother me a whole lot.
Surely, should an impartial outside agency such as the F.B.I. be called upon to investigate these killings, rather than the usual in-house investigation by HPD, the public would stand a better chance of receiving a fair and impartial overall review of the incidents. Only then can justice be served.
Where are the local politicians when you need them?
Shame, Shame, Shame!
