Senator's city job questioned

Kidani was rehired temporarily by the city Neighborhood Commission, where she worked before she held elective office.

Kidani, who won election to the 17th Senate District (Mililani, Waipi'o) seat last year, said she does not see any conflict with holding both a Senate seat and an appointed city job.

HPD officers face drug charges

Welling said park police spotted the men in a white van that was parked sideways across two spots in the parking lot. She said as officers approached, the van drove off and "there was a short pursuit." Then, the van stopped and Souza and Fujioka got out and allegedly ran from police officers.

HPD Chief Boisse Correa said if the allegations against the two are true, they "should not be police officers."

Clark County police spokeswoman Stacey Welling said the officers, who were in Las Vegas for a PAL softball tournament. (Great role models for the kids, eh?)

The last National Guard's 29th Battalion returns to Hawaii Friday after 10 months in Kuwait

Citizen soldiers of the Hawaii Army National Guard's 29th Brigade Combat Team completed 10 months in Kuwait and logged nearly 2.2 million miles escorting convoys to bases in Iraq, averaging six to eight missions a day.

The last of the 1,700 soldiers in the brigade will be home Friday, winding up its second deployment. In 2004 the unit was on active duty for the first time since the Vietnam War, spending 12 months in Iraq.
