Honolulu Youth Commission now accepting applications

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, May 23, 2023

HONOLULU – Applications are now being accepted at https://web1.hnl.info/youthcommission/ for spots on the Honolulu Youth Commission. The new commissioners will be selected by Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Council Members Matt Weyer (District 2), Tommy Waters (District 4), Calvin Say (District 5), Tyler Dos-Santos-Tam (District 6), and Val Okimoto (District 8).

The new commissioners who are selected will serve terms of two years and will be filling positions for members whose terms come to an end on July 31, 2023, with the exception of Council Member Say’s appointee, who will serve for the remainder of the current term, which concludes after one year.

The deadline to apply is June 30, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.

“I have been so impressed by the way our youth commissioners have stepped up to serve and help shape their futures,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Not only have these young people represented their communities through helpful dialogue with our Administration and the City Council, but have not shied away when called upon to address the crowds at our recent Town Hall meetings. I look forward to hearing their perspectives on the important issues and challenges we face in the City and County of Honolulu.”

The Honolulu Youth Commission consists of fifteen members and provides those aged 14 to 24 with the opportunity to serve their community in one of the most dynamic and engaging levels of public government. These commissioners are from all across the island and will serve as voluntary advisors to the Mayor and City Council on issues important to youth and their communities.

Because this is an active commission, commissioners will be expected to attend at least one commission meeting per month. Additional commitment(s) may be necessary subject to the needs of the commission. For more information on the Honolulu Youth Commission visit https://www.honolulu.gov/yc.
