Hawaiʻi Republican Party Mourns the Loss of Senator Sam Slom

News Release from Hawaiʻi Republican Party

Honolulu, HI - The Hawaiʻi Republican Party is deeply saddened by the passing of former Senator Sam Slom. He was a dedicated public servant, a respected businessman, and a champion for conservative values in Hawaiʻi.

Senator Slom was the longest-serving Republican in the Hawaiʻi State Senate, serving for 20 years from 1996 to 2016. During his time in office, he fought tirelessly for fiscal responsibility, limited government, and individual freedom. He was a strong advocate for small businesses and worked to create a better economic environment for all Hawaiʻi residents.

Outside of his political career, Senator Slom was a successful businessman, owning and operating several small businesses in Hawaiʻi. He was a respected member of the community and a mentor to many.

It has been quoted that "Senator Slom was a true leader and an inspiration to all of us in the Hawaiʻi Republican Party", "Senator Slom was a consistent warrior for the conservative cause" and that "Sam was true to his word".

Senator Slom shared this message on opening day of the 28th Hawaiʻi State Legislature "It has become increasingly difficult to stand up and speak out against the status quo and to call for change in Hawaiʻi...Yet it must be done! There are some who would silence any dissent in our State. Sometimes there are severe political, social, economic and media consequences for speaking out, yet it must be done!"

Mahalo Senator Slom  for your service to our State. The Hawaiʻi Republican Party extends its deepest condolences to Senator Slom's family and loved ones during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service for Senator Slom is pending. Details will be announced soon.
