SB1230: A one-finger salute at our military
from HiFiCo, May 7, 2023
SB1230 is just waiting on the Governor’s signature, and with the stroke of his pen, he's prepared to throw a one-finger salute at our military.
SB1230 makes drastic changes to Hawaii permitting, registration, and concealed carry licensing laws. One of the HUGE changes is the requirement that a person be a resident of Hawaii to apply for and obtain a CCL.
If you didn't know, a vast majority of our military members stationed in Hawaii are not residents of the state. Due to their temporary nature, they keep residency in the state where they permanently live (typically where they enlisted). This is the state where they vote, pay taxes, and have their IDs.
This means that under this soon-to-be law, service members are going to be denied their basic fundamental right to bear arms for lawful purposes--something that is plainly unconstitutional.
Please pass this on to your military friends, family, and commands to bring awareness to this injustice.
Also, consider calling the governor's office at (808) 586-0034 and the Lt governor's office at (808) 586-0255 to let them know how this makes you feel.
