Five Red Light Camera Sites Now Active

HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises motorists that the Red-Light Safety Camera at Pali Highway and School Street will begin issuing warnings on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022.

Pali Highway and School Street is the last of the Phase 2 locations for the Red-Light Safety Camera (RLSC) pilot. A complete list of locations and more information on the pilot can be found at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/red-light-safety-program/

Status of the 10 RLSC sites as of Dec. 27, 2022, is:

RED-LIGHT SAFETY CAMERA AT VINEYARD AND LILIHA WILL ISSUE ACTIVE CITATIONS

HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises motorists that the Red-Light Safety Camera at Vineyard Boulevard and Liliha Street will begin issuing citations on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022.

Vineyard Boulevard and Liliha Street is one of the Phase 1 locations for the Red-Light Safety Camera (RLSC) pilot.  A complete list of locations and more information on the pilot can be found at:  "Red-light-safety-program"   

The other Phase 1 site at Vineyard Boulevard and Palama Street began issuing citations on Nov. 20. To date, there have been 39 citations for violations of red-light running at this location. This is an average of two violations per day as compared to the average of 10 violations per day as observed during the baseline study period.

The first of the Phase 2 sites, Vineyard Boulevard and Nuuanu Avenue, is in the active warning period as of Dec. 7.

RED-LIGHT SAFETY CAMERA SITES CHOSEN

HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) announces the full selection of sites for the Red-Light Safety Camera (RLSC) pilot.

Phase 1 sites were announced on Sept. 20, and are:

Vineyard Boulevard and Palama Street
Vineyard Boulevard and Liliha Street

The Phase 2 sites will be:

Vineyard Boulevard and Nuuanu Avenue
Pali Highway and Vineyard Boulevard
Pali Highway and School Street

The Phase 3 sites will be:

Likelike Highway and School Street
King Street and Ward Avenue
Kapiolani Boulevard and Kamakee Street
Beretania Street and Piikoi Street
McCully Street and Algaroba Street

Construction on the Vineyard Boulevard and Nuuanu Avenue RLSC began on Nov. 28 and is expected to take between 2-4 weeks. HDOT will update when this site is ready to send out warnings.
