2022 Hawai`i's Rainbow Wave
News Release from Stonewall Caucus of Hawaii Democratic Party, Nov 10, 2022
Late Wednesday night when the Office of Elections for the State of Hawai‘i released the 4th run of the 2022 General Election the voters in the state of Hawai‘i had re-elected & elected more out LGBTQIA+ officials in one election than ever before.
Re-elected:
Councilmember KipuKai Kuali`i was re-elected to his third consecutive term on the Kaua`i County Council.
State Representative Adrian Tam was re-elected to his second consecutive term for the newly re-districted State House District 24 which covers Waikiki.
Elected:
State Representative Terez Amato was elected to represent House District 11 which covers Portion of Maalaea, Kihei, Keawakapu, Wailea, Makena, Kanahena, and Keoneoio.
State Representative Darius Kila was elected to represent House District 44 which includes Māʻili, Nānākuli, Honokai Hale, and Koʻolina.
Councilmember-elect Matt Weyer will represent Council District II on the Honolulu City Council. This is the largest geographical council district and it includes Waipio, Mililani Mauka, Wahiawā, Mokulēʻia, Waialua, Haleʻiwa, Pūpūkea, Sunset Beach, Kahuku, Lāʻie, Hauʻula, Punaluʻu, Kahana, Kaʻaʻawa, Kualoa, Waiāhole and Kahaluʻu.
Councilmember-elect Tyler Dos Santos-Tam will represent Council District VI on the Honolulu City Council. This district includes portions of Makiki, Downtown Honolulu, Punchbowl, Pauoa Valley, Nuʻuanu, ʻĀlewa Heights, Papakōlea, Fort Shafter, Moanalua, Hālawa, ʻAiea, Kalihi Valley and portions of Liliha and Kalihi.
When Councilmember-elect Weyer and Dos Santos-Tam are sworn in on January 2, 2023 Hawai‘i will have more out elected LGBTQIA+ officials at one time than we ever had in the history of our state.
Representation matters and these elected officials will inspire other members of our diverse community to run and win. They will also help those that may be struggling with who they are and/or who they love and let them know they are fine the way they are born, and it truly does get better.
