UPDATE: TRO Against New Police Chief’s son places him in UH Professor's spare bedroom
SA: Retired National Guard Brig. Gen. Arthur ‘Joe’ Logan chosen as Honolulu’s next police chief … Logan beat out three other finalists for the top HPD post: HPD Maj. Mike Lambert, head of the department’s Ke Kula Makai Training Division; HPD Maj. Ben Moszkowicz, who runs the department’s Traffic Division; and retired New Jersey State Police Lt. Col. Scott Ebner. After taking a straw poll, the commission narrowed the field to Logan and Ebner, choosing to go outside the embattled department for its next leader …. Logan, a 20-year HPD veteran before joining the military, is the grandson of a New York City police officer and two of his brothers served in the department. He joined HPD in 1982 and worked as a patrol officer, narcotics/vice officer and solo bike officer before being promoted to sergeant and was assigned as a detective in the robbery detail. He later lead the 2,000-member Hawaii National Guard with an annual budget of $200 million. He currently works as a criminal investigator with the state Attorney General’s Office….
SA: “If you have a young officer who wants to be the police chief, my job is to teach them how to do that. This is a five-year term; I’m not going to be there … for decades. … So because of that, I have to find somebody capable of taking my place, and there are the two candidates who were also applying (Lambert and Moszkowicz) and are also qualified, so we need to take a look at that,” said Logan.
(TRANSLATION: I'm just a placeholder. I was picked because of my advanced age. When the scandals blow over, I will retire and HPD will return to insider control as usual.)
HNN: Logan also said he wants his first deputy chief to be Keith Horikawa, a retired HPD major
CB: Logan’s resume includes 41 years of military experience and two decades of service with HPD, from 1982 until 2002, where he made sergeant and worked as a detective on the robbery detail for the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
