HONOLULU, HI – “As a former Republican elected official, I was shocked and appalled that two prominent Democrat elected officials have been accused by the U.S. Attorney of taking large sums of cash, gifts, and special perks as bribes for years in exchange for preferential legislative treatment.

“We will be monitoring the investigation closely to understand how widespread this corruption is in our government.

“This is more proof that the system is rigged by Democrats against the average person in Hawai‘i. The Democrat monopoly that controls every corner of government in Hawai‘i must end!

“Since our first elected official, Prince Kūhiō, Hawai‘i Republicans have always believed in transparency and accountability in government, and the people of Hawai‘i deserve better!” said Lynn Finnegan, State Chair of the Hawai‘i Republican Party.

We Must Defeat Democrat Corruption!

Once more, the corrupt one-party rule of the radical Democrats made a mockery of our most sacred institutions of democracy, as it was revealed that former State Sen. Kalani English, and now-resigned Rep. Ty Cullen, took bribes in exchange for legislative action.

While the investigation is still pending and full details are just now starting to emerge, some of the initial accusations made by the U.S. Attorney and our own State Attorney General, Clare Connors, are mind-blowing.

Rep. Cullen’s receiving a bribe worth over $20,000 in casino chips to then turn into cash for himself was a petty, yet purposeful effort to not get caught. Well, he finally got caught and resigned right before the FBI’s press conference. Sen. English was also caught, red-handed, like a petty street criminal accepting cash to kill a bill and will now plead guilty in court.

These unfortunate activities show that Democrats cannot be trusted either to make the laws that rule over the people of Hawai‘i or obey the very laws they swore to uphold. It also shows us that we must be alert and prepared, more than ever, for the important November 2022 midterm elections!

Contrary to what Democrats are portraying, Republicans believe in transparency and accountability in government. Yet in our upcoming election, our candidates are sure to face unfair smear campaigns by Democrats who want to stay in control, which is why we need your help TODAY!

Honolulu, HI: In response to the United States Attorney (District of Hawaii) allegations, Representative Gene Ward stated:

"This is the biggest bombshell to hit the State Legislature in decades. I commend the US Attorney's office for what appears as a very open and closed case," said Rep. Ward.

"In the event that any of the Campaign Spending Commission or State Ethics Commission data in the case are challenged or unclear, I suggest the State Auditor, Les Kondo, be called in to settle the matter," Ward concluded.
