Go X Celebrates Hawai‘i’s Electric Foot Scooter Law

Waikīkī – Go X, the electric scooter sharing company that has allowed Hawai‘i businesses big and small to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional revenue, is happy to ride the future of alternative transportation as Gov. David Ige signs House Bill 72, HD2, SD2 (Act 174), the electric foot scooter bill, into law.
“Go X partner businesses that are currently renting out environmentally friendly electric scooters in Waikīkī have recorded more than 250,000 miles from more than 50,000 rides and some of them have grossed over $100,000 in revenue,” said Go X CEO Alex Debelov. “Now that Hawai‘i’s electric foot scooter law is a part of the state’s traffic code, Go X looks forward to expanding our fun, convenient and affordable service to other parts of O‘ahu and eventually the neighbor islands.”
The new state law requires electric foot scooters to “only be stored or docked at specific locations that shall be authorized by the counties,” meaning Go X’s unique business model, which only allows electric foot scooters to be parked and rented at partner businesses, is already in compliance.
“Not only are Go X electric foot scooters environmentally friendly as they produce zero carbon emissions,” said Debelov, “they also take up very little space at our partner businesses and use no public areas for parking, making them the perfect choice for Hawai‘i. As O‘ahu continues to experience a rental car shortage, Go X allows visitors to travel short to medium distances safely within Waikīkī.”
Go X electric foot scooters have a maximum speed of 15 mph in compliance with Hawai‘i’s new law, and all riders need to be at least 17 years old. Riders also have the option of wearing a safety helmet securely fastened with a chin strap, which Go X encourages.
Now that the electric foot scooter law is in effect, the counties are responsible for creating additional parameters on how to further regulate them. Go X has been collaborating with the City and County of Honolulu for several months and looks forward to crafting rules that reflect the multi-modal vision the City Council had for O‘ahu back in 2012 when it unanimously passed the Complete Streets ordinance.

Go X electric scooters are $1 plus 88 cents per minute to ride, or $9.99 for every 35 minutes. Plans for unlimited rides are available at daily ($49.99), weekly ($149.99), and monthly ($299) rates.
The Go X smartphone app allows customers to rent an electric scooter in mere moments and provides up-to-date information on where available scooters are located. Use a QR code or enter a manual number to rent as many Go X electric scooters as you need.
More than 250,000 miles have been ridden on Go X electric scooters in Hawai‘i since operations began in February in Waikīkī. It would take approximately 12,000 gallons of gas to drive as far, which would generate more than 235,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2).
