SA June 15, 2021: … Video footage from a surveillance camera at the home where a 29-year-old South African man was shot and killed by police following a fight with officers captures him entering the home and then quickly leaving while apologizing to the couple who called police….
Footage from a Ring Home Security Camera packaged with previously unreleased body worn camera footage from responding Honolulu police officers was sent to media this morning by Bickerton, who is representing the family of Lindani Myeni in a wrongful death lawsuit against the officers, HPD and the city.
Bickerton has said Myeni believed the home he entered was the ISKCON Hawaii temple at nearby 51 Coelho Way.
In the video, Myeni, a husband, father and former professional rugby player is seen jogging to catch up with a couple entering the home at 91 Coelho Way in Nuuanu on the evening of April 14….
Dexter can be heard saying, “we have no temple.”…
Dexter Wang can be heard talking to the home’s owner, James H. Hall, saying he doesn’t know “what is going” on and that “he says his name is Lindon.”
Myeni is then seen walking out of the home. He puts his shoes on and walks toward his car.
He turns one final time toward the doorway and raises his hand while saying, “sorry.”
Dexter Wang, in a calm voice, tells Hall, “he apologized and he just left.”…

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) has released bodycam footage of the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. Officers responded to calls of a burglary in progress in the Nuuanu area where they shot 29-year-old Lindani Myeni after an altercation at a home on Coelho Way. The bodycam footage shows the first officer responding, seeing the distraught resident who called 911 and pointing out the suspect who had been inside her home. During a news conference on Thursday, HPD Chief Susan Ballard said that an officer used his Taser, but it was ineffective on the suspect. The bodycam footage confirms this. Police say the footage shows that Myeni attacked the officers and they had no choice but to take action. “They did very well,” HPD acting deputy chief Allan Nagata said. “They were brave and fought for their lives. I was impressed with what they did. They did not shoot or discharge the firearm right away. This was not a case of overreaction.”

HNN: …Earlier this week, when asked whether Myeni was aggressive toward those in the home where the incident happened, Ballard said Myeni had been exhibiting strange behavior before officers arrived.
“He walked into the house and he was just erratic, very odd behavior,” Ballard said.
“He sat down and took off his shoes and he was trying to talk to the people (homeowners) but they were very upset. He eventually walked out.”
On Friday, Hawaii News Now returned to the Nuuanu house where the shooting happened to give the tenants who called 911 a chance to share their side of the story. When HNN arrived at the the Coelho Way home, the gate was open with at least a half-dozen cars parked out front.
A screen door had been left unlatched, too.
HNN knocked and then saw a man walk by the window, but only a dog came to the door.
Not far away, a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified, shared what they heard. Because of where the person was that night, they said they could hear some of what happened. The neighbor didn’t recall any sirens, just a stern voice loudly asking, “What are you doing here?”
The neighbor says she heard a fight break out and then gunshots.
Then she heard someone say “f**k” and ask, “Are you OK?”
Multiple neighbors told HNN there are new people frequently staying at the home where the shooting happened. HNN asked police if Myeni knew someone there. Police said that is under investigation….
