Seeking Applications for Independent Grand Jury Counsel – First Circuit (Oahu)

News Release from Hawaii Judiciary, September 13, 2018

HONOLULU – The Circuit Court of the First Circuit is seeking applications for Independent Grand Jury Counsel. The compensation for independent counsel shall be as provided by law.

Article I, Section 11 of the Constitution of the state of Hawaii establishes that whenever a grand jury is impaneled, an independent counsel shall be appointed as provided by law, to advise the members of the grand jury regarding matters brought before it.  

In accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes (§612-51 to §612-57), the chief justice of the state supreme court appoints grand jury counsel for the four judicial circuits of the state, selecting from among those individuals licensed to practice law in Hawaii who are not public employees.

Applicants Sought to Fill Vacancy on the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court

HONOLULU – The Nominating Committee of the Hawaii Supreme Court is seeking to fill a non-attorney position on the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court. Applicants from all islands are invited to apply.

The term of this position will begin upon appointment and expire on June 30, 2019. Full terms are for a period of three years.

The Disciplinary Board oversees the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, which investigates allegations of attorney misconduct and incapacity, and recommends appropriate action to the Hawaii Supreme Court to effectuate the purposes of its Disciplinary Rules.

Board members receive no compensation but may be reimbursed for travel and other expenses incidental to the performance of their duties.

Qualifications for Disciplinary Board positions include sound judgment, and a willingness and ability to devote time to perform necessary duties, including learning the procedures, methods and functions of the Board. Other qualifications include experience in specialized areas that will aid in the evaluation and analysis of complaints and recommendations for discipline.

Applicants Sought for Board of Bar Examiners

News Release from Hawaii Judiciary, Sep 11, 2018

HONOLULU – The Nominating Committee of the Hawaii Supreme Court is accepting applications from attorneys who wish to serve as members of the Board of Bar Examiners. Applicants from all islands are invited to apply.

Appointed board members will serve three-year terms beginning November 1, 2018.

The Board of Examiners administers the process of admission to the Hawaii State Bar. It examines each applicant’s qualifications, knowledge of legal ethics, moral character, and administers a written examination.

Board members receive no compensation but may be reimbursed for travel and other expenses incidental to the performance of their duties.

Attorney applicants should submit a letter of interest along with a resume to:
