How They Voted: Civil Unions passes House Judiciary 11-2
By Hawaii Family Forum @ 12:20 PM :: 3817 Views :: Energy, Environment

CIVIL UNION BILL CONTINUES FAST-TRACK

The civil unions bill (SB 232) was passed in the House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 11 (yes) to 2 (no) while 3 were excused.  The committee amended the version but it is not available for viewing at this time, but keep checking this link so that you will be able to read the new version once it is posted.

The hearing today ended in what most agree was an expected decision.  Many people testified in support but this time more testifiers showed up to oppose the bill.   We appreciate the time each of you made to be at the capitol.

HB 1453 was deferred and HB 1244 was deferred for decision making.  More information on that will come in another email.

The vote on SB 232 HD 1 was as follows:

What happens now is the bill will move to the full House for a vote on the amended version.  If it passes the House, it will then go over to the Senate and they will have to agree to the changes.  If they do not agree, the bill will go to a conference committee with members from both chambers so they can work out their disagreements.

Each of you have the opportunity right now, to contact your own representative and let them know you do not want civil unions/same-sex marriage in Hawaii.

It is very simple for you to make that contact.  Just click here.  The link will automatically set you up to type a quick note of opposition to your legislator.  If you have never used our system before all you have to do is click the link and you will be taken to a very simple page where you fill in the information.  You do not need to know your legislator’s name, the system will match you up with your legislator based on your address.

Once you do that, please forward this email to at least five to ten of your friends and ask them to do the same.
