The Draft Oʻahu Pedestrian Plan is available for the public’s review

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, July 6, 2021

HONOLULU- The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) is excited to publish the Draft Oʻahu Pedestrian Plan. The Draft Oʻahu Pedestrian Plan is Honolulu’s first island-wide pedestrian plan that aims to create vibrant, safe, and accessible streets to enable those of all ages and abilities to get around safely and comfortably on foot.

Walking is the oldest, most efficient, affordable, and environmental-friendly form of transportation. It is how everyone, from keiki to kūpuna, can independently get to community destinations; how transit riders get to and from their stops; and how drivers and cyclists get from parking to the door. Pedestrian activity helps build strong, safe communities; is the primary way that neighbors get to know one another; and improves mental and physical health.

The Oʻahu Pedestrian Plan includes an inventory of existing pedestrian conditions, identifies locations with high pedestrian crash history, proposes pedestrian programs, and prioritizes safety improvement projects to facilitate walking and travel consistent with Honolulu’s Complete Streets law. Community input has played a critical role in shaping the Oʻahu Pedestrian Plan, and now DTS is requesting the public’s input on the Draft Plan. Please submit comments via email to completestreets@honolulu.gov by Friday, August 6, 2021.
