Oahu residents can file for candidacy for neighborhood board elections starting NOW and running through February 19, 2021.

Board terms will run from 2021 through 2023.

The Neighborhood Board program is the only government-supported civic engagement system in Hawaii. Oahu’s Neighborhood Board System was created in 1973 to assure and increase community participation in the decision-making process of government. The system applies the concept of participatory democracy, involving communities in the decisions that affect them. It establishes an island-wide network of elected neighborhood boards as communication channels, expanding and facilitating opportunities for community and government interaction.

To register to be a candidate in the 2021 neighborhood board election, visit www2.honolulu.gov/nbe or call 768-3710 to request a registration form. Registration forms can also be found on the Neighborhood Commission Office website.

The 2021 Neighborhood Board Election will be held online. The website will not be activated until the voting period begins on April 26, 2021 and concludes on May 21, 2021.

Registered voters who are unable to vote online can request a paper ballot at 768-3705 no later than May 11, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. with your full name, birth date, and residential address. Returned ballots must be postmarked by May 21, 2021 and received by the Neighborhood Commission no later than May 28, 2021.

For more information call 768-3710 or visit www.honolulu.gov/NCO.

If you plan to run please let us know so we can promote you to our members.

Mahalo,

Brett Kulbis
