DUKE AIONA RESPONDS TO ED CASE ENDORSEMENT

HONOLULU - Lt. Governor Duke Aiona today issued the following statement regarding an email that former U.S. Rep. Ed Case sent to his supporters endorsing Neil Abercrombie in the Democratic primary for Governor:

"Ed Case's endorsement of Neil Abercrombie in the Democratic primary for Governor, and his reasons for it, are not surprising.

"Ed Case is known to speak his mind openly and passionately, even when what he has to say is not popular within his own political party. I have always respected Ed for this.

"Now, Ed has written a thoughtful and courageous letter to his supporters about why he is endorsing Neil Abercrombie over Mufi Hannemann in the Democratic primary. Ed is candid in describing Mufi as "the product and clear choice of a political machine that must end" and "the most dangerous politician in a generation."

"I would like to personally extend my thanks and appreciation to Ed for his remarks about my candidacy. Ed Case and I differ on a variety of issues, but we want to serve the people of Hawai`i with honesty and integrity to the best of our experience and abilities."
