UPDATE Kalani HS: Poster trashes TEA Party as “evil”
By News Release @ 6:46 PM :: 17253 Views :: Kauai County, DHHL, Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment

UPDATE: SB reports DoE now claims the poster was part of a class exercise where students were directed to construct examples of 'propaganda'.  The akamai reader will note that no such justification was included in the email from Kalani Principal Teramae (below).

SB: Student's poster draws Tea Party's ire (5-19-2010)

A Kalani High student poster critical of the Tea Party movement drew criticism after a picture of it was posted online. The poster was part of a student project illustrating an example of propaganda.  (Notice that SB is making the claim its own rather than writing "school officials say the poster was part of a project.")

(The assertion that the poster was intended as an example of ‘propaganda’ was not part of any of the original communications.  Sounds like a DoE cover-up.)

Hawaii TEA Party President Brett Glass has received a response from Kalani Principal Gerald Teramae:

Mr. Glass, Thank you for educating me on the position of the Tea Party Movement. I appreciate the method in which you have sought to provide me with your response to your concern regarding this poster. As I have mentioned to several concern individuals, I make no excuses and take full responsibilities for the actions of our teachers and students but I must inform you that administration at Kalani High School did not approve the content of this poster or it being posted on the walls of our school. I must agree with you that we must allow our students and teachers and their First Amendment Rights but these right should be a fair representation of ALL parties and these opinions must be based on informed information.

I will be addressing this issue with our faculty and staff immediately on Monday morning. I would be more than glad to speak to you further regarding this issue.

Do you have something to say about this!!!  Click Here to find email addresses and phone numbers of the school and let them know what you think.

Email addresses for the administration at Kalani High School:

Principal - Gerald Teramae

Kalani High School VP - Laura Ahn, Reid Kuba, Sean Wong
