Special Announcement from Andria Tupola – November 21, 2017

From Vote Tupola

I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health wrapping up the last few months of 2017.  My family and I are doing well! My husband continues to  work for the city, my daughters are 9 and 10, and I'm looking forward to finishing my PhD in music very soon.

What an interesting journey thus far! I was first given the honor to serve my community as a State House Representative in 2014 and this  honor has continued through my re-election in 2016. The difficult decision to put my music career on hold has been rewarded with opportunities to influence positive change not only for my community, but also for the entire State of Hawaii.  I've used my creativity and teaching skills to be a very different -- very grassroots -- public servant who has been very proactive in serving my community.

  • Lead quarterly street cleanups
  • Direct traffic during water main breaks
  • Help haul abandoned cars
  • Organize statewide trafficking awareness conferences
  • Give away hundreds of prom dresses while empowering girls in my community
  • Paint locker rooms
  • Organize mural projects
  • Advocate for lower electric bills
  • Help homeless encampments
  • Host town halls
  • Vote on thousands of bills while also leading our minority caucus

This is the type of grassroots, community-based leadership we need to create a better Hawaii for everyone.  This cannot be done with the current career politicians who leap from one election to the next.  We need leaders focused on us and our communities -- not their own political ambition.  We need bold, inspiring leaders who bring people together and who are accountable to the people.

In a few weeks, I will formally announce my run for Governor of the State of Hawaii.  This is a huge step in my and my family's life -- but I believe the time to take this step is now.  The systemic problems in our state have led to,

  1. a high cost of living,
  2. an unfriendly business environment,
  3. departments permitting unqualified "professionals" to work with vulnerable populations,
  4. a homeless epidemic, and
  5. substandard state facilities.

Yet in the face of all these problems, our current government remains unresponsive. We cannot continue with more of the same.We can do better -- and frankly -- our Hawaii DESERVES better.

As I prepare to run for Governor, the voices I want to hear from are not the insiders and political elites who have controlled our government for too long; rather, I’m talking to working families, nurses, teachers, truck drivers and small business owners who have kept Hawaii going despite the current government’s ineffective decision-making. These are the voices that need to be heard!

I am ready for this next step, but I know I can’t do it alone.  Whatever the future holds, we will only make it better by working together.  I am reaching out to ask for your support to help get our campaign off the ground.  Please consider donating $100, $250, $2000, or the max of $6000 to help us reach our goal of $250,000 before the end of 2017.  You can also help by following me on social media and talking to all your friends about my vision for a better Hawaii.  Thank you for your support and love!

Thank you for your support and love,

Andria Tupola

Hawaii deserves the best!
