DJOU FOR MAYOR ANNOUNCES ITS CAMPAIGN CHAIR AND KEY ENDORSEMENTS

News release from Djou for Mayor June 15, 2016

Honolulu, HI - The Djou for Mayor campaign announced that retired Federal Judge Walter Heen will serve as the campaign chair and picked up the support of both Former Gov. Ben Cayetano and Honolulu City Councilmember Ann Kobayashi.

"My campaign is honored to have Judge Walter Heen head up our campaign and earn the support of Gov. Ben Cayetano and City Councilmember Ann Kobayashi," stated Djou.  "The backing of these trusted community leaders is a reflection of how much we need new leadership at Honolulu Hale.  If elected mayor, I look forward to working with Gov. Cayetano, Judge Heen and Councilmember Kobayashi to restore a sense of trust at City Hall."

Hon. Walter Heen was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawaii and later as a Federal Judge.  Heen served as a Councilmember on the Honolulu City Council, a Trustee at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and as Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.  Heen is one of the last two living authors of the original "Broken Trust" article that initiated sweeping reforms at Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools.

Hon. Benjamin Cayetano served as Governor of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002.  Cayetano, previously served as Lt. Governor of Hawaii and had served in both the Hawaii State Senate and State House.

Hon. Ann Kobayashi currently serves as a member of the Honolulu City Council, representing Council District V.  Kobayashi previously served in the Hawaii State Senate as a Democrat.

Charles Djou is running for Mayor of Honolulu. He represented Hawaii's 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House and previously served on the Honolulu City Council and Hawaii State House.  Djou is an Army Reservist and Afghanistan war veteran.  He is married to Stacey Kawasaki Djou and together they have three children.
