News Release from US Army Pacific Command March 25, 2014

The 2014 AUSA LANPAC Symposium & Exposition - a world-class international event highlighting the role of land forces in the Asia-Pacific Theater will take place from 8-10 April at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The U.S. Army Pacific Command (USARPAC), headquartered at Fort Shafter and commanded by Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, is the featured command for this AUSA Institute of Land Warfare professional development forum. The symposium, also with cooperation from U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, commanded by Adm. Samuel J. Locklear III, will focus on the theme: “Land Forces: Assuring Security and Stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.”

The three-day program will highlight information warfare and cyber activities; leveraging training with technology; partnerships with nongovernmental organizations; humanitarian assistance and disaster response; and changes, challenges and opportunities in the Pacific strategic security environment.

Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, USA, Ret., AUSA president, said, “This LANPAC – ‘Land Power in the Pacific’ – symposium will bring together invited representatives from more than 32 countries and will highlight the role of land forces in the Asia-Pacific theater during peace and war.” Adding, “Participants will explore, in depth, the concept of strategic land power and the future of the Asia-Pacific theater with valuable perspectives from U.S. military and civilian leaders, industry leaders and service leaders from allied countries in this very important region of the world.”

In addition to General Brooks, invited speakers include Gen. Dennis Via, commander, U.S. Army Materiel Command; Vice Adm. Robert L. Thomas Jr., commander, U.S. 7th Fleet; Gen. Kiyofumi Iwata, chief of staff, Japan Ground Self Defense Force; Gen. Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, chief of staff, Bangladesh Army; Lt. Gen. Robert S. Ferrell, U.S. Army chief information officer, G-6; and Brig. Tim Gall, land component commander, Headquarters, Joint Forces, New Zealand.

Sullivan noted, “We have designed this symposium not only to deliver the Army’s message, but to display the capabilities of allied armed forces organizations and AUSA industry members who provide commercial products and services in support of their missions.”

“With military and industry exhibits displaying the latest technology, weapons and equipment in our exhibit hall, this year’s symposium and exposition will be an outstanding event.”
