Aiona sees jobs in energy

Aiona, the Republican candidate for governor, said the target would be achievable by accelerating renewable projects already being planned by utilities and others. The state has already committed to getting 70 percent of its energy from renewable resources by 2030 under the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative.

Aiona said the state spends $4 billion to $6 billion annually on imported fossil fuel, so if that bill can be cut in half, it would keep more money in the state's economy.

"We will be able to infuse that $2 to $3 billion into our economy.

Inouye demands $4 TRILLION in new taxes

Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye, first elected in 1962, contends the pledge makes no sense because Republicans are promising to cut discretionary spending by $100 billion while proposing to retain tax breaks at a $4 trillion cost to the U.S. Treasury.

(In other words, the GOP wants to cut spending by $100B and NOT increase taxes by $4 trillion dollars.)

GOP 'Pledge' makes closing argument to voters

STERLING, Va. — Pushing toward big gains on Nov. 2, House Republicans promised to end a slew of Democratic policies and restore Americans' trust in government as they rolled out a campaign manifesto designed to show they're listening to an angry public and are focused on creating jobs.

"The land of opportunity has become the land of shrinking prosperity ... Our government has failed us," Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California declared. "We will take back our country. We will restore for a better future. This is our pledge to you."

Civil Beat’s Omidyar gives $750,000 to Abercrombie group

Omidyar's local contributions include at least $750,000 to help launch Kanu Hawaii, a grass-roots social organization that encourages civic-minded individuals to improve their community, and at least the same amount to Ma'o Organic Farms, whose goal is to educate at-risk youth in Waianae about agriculture, sustainable development and the Hawaiian culture.

(Kanu Hawaii bosses are playing a key role in Abercrombie’s campaign.  They were also instrumental in manufacturing the SOS Hawaii group which worked to pin the furlough crisis on Lingle by occupying her office.)

KHON2 camera covered with Abercrombie sticker

Travis Taylor, communications director for Republican governor candidate Duke Aiona, was not happy to see a campaign sticker for Neil Abercrombie inside Aiona's campaign headquarters on Nimitz Highway.

It didn't help that the "Neil" sticker was on a KHON2 TV camera.

"Can you do that?" Taylor asked incredulously of the two reporters in the room.

Ewa Beach website exposes Cabanilla, Espero, Bradshaw

Eric Ryan, a conservative activist in Ewa Beach known for his internal scraps with fellow Republicans, is (finally doing something useful) aiming at Democrats in a new effort he calls “Save Ewa Beach.”

The targets: state Rep. Rida Cabanilla, state Sen. Will Espero and Jason Bradshaw, the AFL-CIO political director running against state Rep. Kymberly Pine, a Republican.

Pine may be vulnerable in November because (we in the Democrat media are spreading) speculation that she may covet the Honolulu City Council seat being vacated by council chairman Todd Apo. (Kailua carpetbagger) Bradshaw is also getting help from his union brothers and sisters.

Cabanilla’s ad may have violated military law

Cabanilla Arakawa, whose office manager is convicted child molester Leon Rouse, beat her Democratic opponent, Mike Schultz, 1,535 votes to 1,407, and will face Republican Tom Berg in the Nov. 2 general election.

John Bond, an Ewa Beach resident in Cabanilla Arakawa's district who received a flier, called it a "misrepresentation" of the uniform.

Similar accusations for federal office have cropped up in Idaho, North and South Carolina, New York, Colorado, Indiana, Rhode Island and Ohio.

Col. Floresita Quarto, commander of Cabanilla Arakawa's unit, the 1984th U.S. Army Reserve Hospital, said in an e-mailed statement that the campaign ads have been brought to her attention and that the situation is under review.

Rape, stabbings, attempted murder as Homelessness Industry keeps homeless on streets out of shelter

Police say a 29-year-old man told a security officer at the Park Shore Hotel that he'd been attacked by three men who fled in different directions.

The security officer chased after one of the men, who collapsed from his wounds.

The victim, Earl Grant the third, died at Queens Medical Center from stab wounds to his heart and chest. The medical examiner has classified the cause of death as homicide.

Toledo and his friends said lately they've seen more crime in the park.

"Couple of weeks ago, down by the lifeguard station, one guy got stabbed and a couple of days later, another guy got shot," said Toledo. "Just three days ago, at the bus stop across the street, this girl is sleeping and these three guys pull up in a car, got out and beat her so bad, then they took off."

Debra Morrow said someone tried to rape her in the park and said living on the streets in Waikiki is getting more and more dangerous.

(Responsibility for this situation lies entirely with the so-called homeless advocates who resist forcing the homeless into shelters.)

Invasive, hoofed animals fall into policy gap

Historically it has been permissible for everyone from pig farmers to the state's Department of Land and Natural Resources' game program to release large animals onto unfenced land and then walk away.  (Historically, Hawaii has been home to wild pigs for 2000 years, to wild cattle since Capt Vancouver gave two to Kamehameha who immediately placed a 10-year kapu on them, and wild donkeys for over 100 years.  None of this is modern in origin.)

Residents of Waikoloa on the Big Island now join scores of people across the islands coping with the unfair reality that they must pay for the careless decisions of other people to release invasive animals….

By now it should be obvious to everyone (this is a phrase progressives use to assert authority) that the state is failing its people by giving so little attention to the huge problem of invasive hoofed animals. Uncounted thousands of pigs, goats, sheep, deer, donkeys and cattle are racking up costs in the watersheds, crops, back yards and roads.

The problem is only getting worse, and no one is working on the root of the problem: the lack of a legal framework for animal control across all land ownerships.

(Now you know what their agenda is.  Green police to take over.)

Kyoya Tower Opposed By Environmentalists

Three environmental groups are threatening to go to court over a plan to redevelop a resort on Waikiki beach.  Kyoya's plan to replace a bulky 1960s era hotel with a 26-story tower has wide support in business, labor and government but environmental groups said they are drawing a line in the sand to prevent what they call a bad precedent.

KITV: Developer Eyes City Park Land For Haleiwa Hotel

Well-known developer Andy Anderson is behind the proposal. He’s the sometimes political advisor to former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann and former city managing director under the late Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi.

But opponents have formed a group called Save Haleiwa Beach Park and are organizing to stop the land sale.

"It's city and county parks land. It should never be sold for any purposes whatsoever," said Tony “Squiddy” Sanchez of Haleiwa, who gathered signatures on a petition against the project just off of Kamehameha Highway Wednesday night, across the street at Haleiwa Beach Park.
