Stupid UH Progressives Try to Tie Nick Ochs to Mayor Blangiardi

CB: …Ochs’s brand of conservativism has been gaining traction in Hawaii since the 2016 election, and we learned last week that this brand of conservatism is, in fact, violent and sometimes deadly.

(How long will it take for the left to overreach?  LOL!)

But the larger meaning of Ochs’s role in Hawaii politics also requires exploration.

(Translation: Truly lame political spin coming.)

We argue that not only did Ochs become a viable political candidate in Hawaii, but his ability to do so also demonstrates a larger uptick in conservative politics in Hawaii.

Again, not only did more Hawaii residents vote for Donald Trump in our most recent election, they also produced a surprise at the local level.

Conservative mayoral candidate Rick Blangiardi (who admitted to voting for Trump in 2016) beat not only long-time local politician and former member of Congress, Colleen Hanabusa, but also up-and-comer Keith Amemiya. Amemiya’s loss was particularly stunning, given his impressive list of endorsements from powerful institutions including the Hawaii Government Employees Association and the United Public Works.

Blangiardi won, arguably, by using Donald Trump-style rhetoric to appeal to voters, positioning himself as an outsider, a non-career politician and a successful business owner.  (Amemiya did too.  But lets not let some silly little facts get in the way here.)

(Therefore Blangiardi is complicit in an attempt to overthrow Congress and should immediately be arrested.)

(You know people actually pay tuition money to learn how to talk like this?)

Only Two mass vaccination sites planned for Oahu as Sister isles Begin Inoculating Hundreds

HNN: … The state is finalizing a plan to launch two mass vaccination sites in Honolulu ― one at Pier 2 and the other at the Neal Blaisdell Center, Lt. Gov. Josh Green said.

(Reality: Need 10 on Oahu.)

“It does look very much like Hawaii Pacific Health and Queen’s will be our partners,” Green said.

If all goes according to plan, Queen’s Health Systems will head up efforts at the Blaisdell. Hawaii Pacific Health will take the lead at Pier 2.

“It’s highly likely we’ll have one significant pod for kupuna. And one for the frontline workers,” he said.

To date, nearly 39,000 people have received the COVID-19 vaccination in Hawaii.

Hilton Raethel, head of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii, says each of the two sites will be able to immunize 1,000 people a day. “Maybe even more,” he said. “That’s in addition to what the other hospitals are continuing to do as well.”

Raethel told HNN that the state’s scheduled to receive two more shipments of the Pfizer vaccine this week ― more than 29,000 doses total. Those are the largest deliveries to date….

(DO THE MATH: 29,000 / 2,000 = 14.5 days.  Pathetic.)

UPDATE: Speaker Saiki says Green wrong.  Contracts not signed for mass innoculations.  (So it's even more pathetic.)

Kauai: 500 Teachers Get Vaccine on Day One

TGI: … Tiani Kajiwara showed off her right arm proudly to her daughter, Tiare, Monday afternoon.

Kajiwara, a Waimea High School teacher, received her first dose of the Moderna vaccine at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall along with over 500 others.

“Our phased vaccine distribution program is in full force on Kaua‘i,” Mayor Derek Kawakami said Monday during the Team Kaua‘i COVID-19 briefing.

Groups vaccinated this week include front-line essential workers, including teachers and staff at schools, preschools and daycares, those working in food or agricultural settings, grocery stores, postal workers and residents of small care homes, Kaua‘i District Health Officer Dr. Janet Berreman added.

“If you are in one of these groups, you will be notified by your employer or industry groups about when and where to go for your vaccine,” Berreman said….

Maui: Hundreds turn out for vaccine drive

MN: … State Department of Health officials were “swamped” at their COVID-19 vaccination site Monday in Kahului, with about 400 more patients than expected due to confusion over the online reservation system….

He said that 763 vaccines were given Monday at UH-MC, with 491 from the online registration site….

Since Maui Memorial began taking 1B-tier patients Saturday, the hospital has vaccinated 850 as of Monday, spokeswoman Tracy Dallarda said Monday afternoon.

She said that Maui Health is “making it very clear” when patients ask for an appointment that they select the hospital, as people may get turned away from the UH-MC site. Both DOH and Maui Health “have a certain number of vaccines that are distributed based on demand,” Dallarda said via text.

She agreed that people are very excited to be vaccinated and “we are just as excited to vaccinate our community.”…

Lawmakers concerned after FBI warns of ‘armed protests’ planned at all 50 state capitals

HNN: … House Minority Leader Gene Ward said the open nature of Hawaii’s Capitol is a concern.

“We are one of the most dangerous capitols in the United States,” he said.

For years, the Republican has proposed changes in the rotunda because he believes the open floor plan leaves lawmakers vulnerable to attack.

The threat of potential violence is also worrying community groups.

On Jan. 17, a spiritual walk will honor Queen Liliuokalani and commemorate the overthrow in 1893. The event will be livestreamed and attendance will be capped at 50 people. …

Organizers: ’Unmasked flash mob’ canceled

WHT: … An “unmasked flash mob” planned Saturday at the new Kailua-Kona Safeway has been called off, organizers said Monday evening.

The event, details of which began circulating on social media last week, sparking concern in the community, called for unmasked people to go into the store at 2 p.m. Saturday with a petition signed by over 100 people. Other actions called for signing a petition to protect and honor’s parents rights to direct health care decisions for their keiki as well as to participate in “awareness” rallies planned in Kona and Waimea that day….

DHHL chair says Kapolei casino would be built on land not zoned for homes

HNN: … Chair William Aila has been heavily criticized by Home Lands beneficiaries who complain that the land should be used for housing.

But Aila claims the proposed site located along Roosevelt road could not be used for houses because of zoning.

“We won’t be giving away anything. These are lands that are already zoned commercial. The only difference is, rather than the usual commercial uses of these properties, gaming would be different,” Aila told state lawmakers.

Aila told the house finance committee that no other commercial activity could generate more money than his plans for the casino and hotel. He says the money would then be used to buy more land on Oahu for homes.

Other lawmakers and community members are still highly skeptical of the plan. He needs the approval of the legislature and governor before development of the casino can proceed ….
