Raiding of Hawaii's funds could cost state in bond interest rates

Tapping into reserves and special funds such as the state's hurricane relief or rainy-day funds to help balance the state budget could contribute to a lowering of Hawai'i's bond rating, Moody's Investors Services said.

The credit rating agency yesterday warned it may lower the state's bond ratings if Hawai'i's financial woes aren't resolved, something that potentially could cost the state millions of dollars in higher interest paid on the bonds it issues.

Moody's lowered Hawai'i's ratings outlook to negative from stable, though it left the ratings themselves at Aa2, or the third-best level out of 21 levels Moody's maintains for long-term bonds.

The lowering of the outlook doesn't carry as serious financial implications for the state as does a ratings downgrade, but signals one could occur over the next two years….

Hawaii state representatives determined that this family is not really welcome in Hawaii, because there are some religious groups that think this family and others like them are sinful. Tatum and her two mommies are not acceptable, according to the definition of "family" of these particular groups.

(There has never been a gay marriage anywhere on Earth before its 1993 invention by Steven “Broken Trust” Levinson with the help of Ronald “Broken Trust” Moon. So all humanity before 1993—and most of the world today--consists of ‘particular’ groups?)

On Jan. 29, House Speaker Calvin Say and the state House made it very clear that families like Tatum's are neither welcome nor safe in Hawaii. What is happening here and in other states with spineless and misled legislators is that we are succumbing to a form of religious terrorism. (This, from the same liberals who demand we celebrate Islam Day on Sept 11 Julian) This is no different than the religious terrorism that we (WE???? The religious left have been stabbing our troops in the back since 2002.) are fighting in other parts of the world. We just haven't started killing each other (But in spite of that little detail, its the same, really. Thus all disagreement is terrorism. Bow down before the ‘enlightened, conscious, and progressive’ ones and do not question their edicts.) to the extent that those societies have. This form of terrorism, in the name of God and the Bible, is the same terrorism that (3 red herrings follow)

legalized slavery, (Legalized? Slavery was inherited from antiquity. While defeating the Democrats in combat, 1861-65 Americans abolished slavery in 1863. In Hawaii slavery/indentured servitude was not abolished until 1900 Organic Act. Perhaps the religious left would like to explain its call for restoration of Hawaiian Kingdom in this context?)

legally kept women out of the public sector (Who was Queen Ka`ahumanu? She forced her way into the public sector by bringing Christianity to these isles.), and

legally banned people of different races from marrying (We had to defeat the Democrats again on that one.).

(If opponents of gay marriage are the same as Islamist head-choppers, then why isn’t the religious left appeasing us?????)

When we will as Christians stand up for our families, for our sisters and brothers, and for all those condemned by people who claim the name of Christ but use judgment and fear to control our civil servants.

(Yes. When will OUR civil servants stop bowing to those who claim to be ‘enlightened, conscious, and progressive’ and then claim in the name of Christ that all who oppose them are bigots or terrorists? Oh yes. And from the commentary, here is a one-line explanation of the relationship of the ‘religious’ left to Christianity...)

If the Hauula community did not stand up to support their neighbor, a decision could have been made by Council on January 27 to approve the resolution, then a fellow citizen could have lost her home and land in less than 30 days! In this case, decision-making was set for the February 24, 2010 Council meeting.

Underlying bullying actions also make this case egregious. On January 21, 2010, the owner received a notice of violation from Department of Planning and Permitting regarding tall weeds in the lot. The fine was set at $50 per day. The violation was reportedly issued in June 26, 2009 but owner received no such notice until the receipt of certified mail.

The surprise upset by Scott Brown in Massachusetts left Democrats in the US Senate one short of the 60 needed for a super majority to dislodge a ‘hold’ or stop a ‘filibuster.’ Sure enough, Senator Jim DeMint placed a hold on the Akaka bill. For all intents and purposes, the bill is dead.

One of the bonuses of the last six weeks is that the long, unholy alliance between Inouye and the Danner sisters has been exposed. The last-minute amendments (that caused the eventual collapse of the bill) would have contracted CNHA (the Danner’s non-profit corporation) to be the interim administrator of the Native Hawaiian tribe, until such time that negotiations were ever completed for the creation of a Native Hawaiian Governing Entity.

County bulldozes Hawaiian dwellings on Wainiha Bay

“This is serious,” said Alalem. “These people going be homeless, land-less,” he said of 10 to 15 Native Hawaiian families he said were farming taro on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway, and living on both sides of the highway just north of the single-lane twin bridges over Wainiha River.

County real-property tax records indicate Rose A. Andrade and others including some Haumea and Harada family members own a .292-acre parcel on Wainiha Bay that is referenced by tax-map-key number in some county communications to a Deilon Haumea, family member and representative for that parcel.

A voice-mail message left for Deilon was not returned by press time.

Unofficial reports indicate that coastal erosion may have caused loss of land involving some of the four beach-front parcels along Wainiha Bay, including Andrade’s, possibly causing the land owners to move structures away from the ocean and, possibly, onto county property.

Alalem said some of the involved families received several letters of foreclosure from the county, with a total of around $300,000 in back real property taxes owed.

The county plans to auction off the non-park lands, and there appears to be a willing buyer, said Alalem.

Hawaiian Air reports 'remarkable' year of soaring income in 2009

Hawaiian Airlines' parent said its net income soared more than fourfold to a record in 2009 as the local carrier flew the most passengers in its 80-year history.

Snobs in Hawaii Legislature considering new restrictions on fireworks

Of the five fireworks-related bills that were heard by lawmakers yesterday, only two appeared to be alive at the end of the day.

The House Public Safety Committee advanced House Bill 2068, which would allow counties to enact their own fireworks ordinances.

The Senate Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs postponed a decision on Senate Bill 2365 until Tuesday. That bill would impose a total ban on consumer fireworks, including firecrackers and novelty items such as fireworks fountains. Exceptions would be made for permitted religious or cultural events.

Prosecutor calls defense 'an imaginary scenario'

A state circuit judge heard closing arguments yesterday in the case of a toddler tossed onto a Honolulu freeway, with the defense arguing that the child was dead already at the time….

The judge has in evidence the statement Higa gave police detectives the day after Belt's death. In an interview with a detective, Higa was asked whether the baby was crying and moving its arms and legs, and Higa responded, "Yeah."

Hilo man pleads guilty to manufacturing child pornography

In federal court yesterday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Olson said Seguerre produced still and video images of himself sexually assaulting three children, two girls and a boy. The girls are now 3 and 7, and the boy is 5.

Authorities discovered the images in September after they seized a computer from a man in Oklahoma who was suspected of child pornography. The computer contained videos and still images of a man sexually abusing young children, among other explicit images.

The suspect who owned the computer told agents that he received the images from "Whatzmylove," also known as "Danny Seg," with whom he regularly communicated online, according to a court document.

Authorities arrested Seguerre in Hilo on Sept. 7. He was on probation for theft and forgery at the time of his arrest. (Soft on crime probation system. No enforcement.)

$700K Mobile Command Sits For Years

HONOLULU -- A high-tech, state-of-the-art emergency mobile command unit that cost $700,000 has sat idle for 2 1/2 years after it arrived in Hawaii.

KITV found out that most of the vehicle was paid for with federal Homeland Security money. The $700,000, 48-foot-long, 16-foot wide trailer is supposed to be Hawaii's mobile communication command center in the event of a major disaster.

Hawaii couple attend national TEA Party convention

The Hawaiians, my Hawaiians, are Annie and Tom Rupp of Maui and they came to registration in bright red patriotic t-shirts and enormous coats to protect them from the cruel Nashville winter. Tomorrow they have promised to wear Hawaiian shirts and leis. Annie gave me a Hershey’s kiss stamped with “Aloha.”

Tom, who one flew LifeFlight helicopters for Vanderbilt before he moved to Hawaii to fly tourists around the islands, said they didn’t think twice about the trip to Nashville or the $549 ticket price to the convention. They came out for the 9/12 Tea Party march on Washington too.

“We’re fighting to preserve our country through the power of the vote,” said Annie, distributing more chocolate around the lobby.
