“Dear DIIOTS” -- from a Democrat wanna-be Legislator

Dear Editor,

What  give  you the idea  that I am  remotely in your corner?
I  am not.
You should  retitle (sic)  your publication the  Rush Limbaugh  BLog. (sic)
And  may all of your  children  turn  gay  as  soon as you finish paying for their  college tuition.
And  no, I am not gay. And I do not support gay marriage.  But  I  am definitely not  into gay bashing or  pickin g (sic)  on Obama because  he  is  terminally  half  black,  nor  will I ever forgive you diiots (sic)  for  voting  for  pseudo Saudi  brother  Geoge (sic)  W . (for witless) Bush  for president and standing and applauding whil e (sic)  he almost  destroyed the  ECONOMY OF THEWORLD (sic)  and killed  100,000  non combatant  Iraqui (sic) citizens  .

Lynn Nakkim

Pepeekeo, Hawaii

ED NOTE: The erudite Ms. Nakkim was, was in 2008 a losing Democratic candidate for State House Dist 1.  Tragically, Nakkim was defeated by an HB444 co-sponsor, Democrat candidate Mark Nakashima.  If she had won, Hawaii might have a slightly better chance to avoid gay marriage.  Yes, dear reader, this is an example of an improvement over the current occupant.

Of course, being (ahem) “enlightened and conscious”—and therefore not “progressive”--here at Hawai`i Free Press, we find any claim that “half-black” is a “terminal” condition repugnant.  But we recognize that there is very little to choose from among Democrats.

It is fascinating, in an anthropological kind of way, to note that Nakkim is “not into gay bashing” but on the other hand wishes to curse us by having our children “turn gay”.  After working on I-D-I-O-T-S, maybe we could practice C-O-G-N-I-T-I-V-E  D-I-S-S-O-N-A-N-C-E.

Dumb and Dangerous Legislation

Dear Editor,

Here is my list of dumb and dangerous bills from amongst those newly introduced this session:

The dumbest bills:

  • HB1844-Banning fireworks to placate a few individuals.
  • HB1853-Banning sweets being sold in schools that are now considered part of a well balanced diet. I thought that's why the food pyramid was created.
  • HB1881-Bans brominated flame retardant items with no proof.
  • HB1917-This punishes the guardian for the child's behavior, not the child, because children don't have money except what's given to them.
  • HB2047-First leaf blowers, and then what? Noise pollution laws are getting ridiculous.
  • HB2077-They don't want to automatically graduate students to the next grade, but at the same time they're telling them that they have to reach a certain proficiency by a designated age or risk being deprived the opportunity to finish schooling?
  • HB2122-The schools shouldn't have a choice since they're funded by taxes. In fact, the bill should be expanded to include private schools and homeschoolers.
  • HB2125-This is an outrageous bill. Whatever happened to individuals just picking up trash that they see floating around. We have littering laws. Banning plastic bags is foolish because it sets a precedence for banning items without careful consideration of the effects to our economy and way of life.
  • HB2153-This will hurt consumers more than actually solve the furlough Friday problem for the schools. In fact, it doesn't even cover the entire amount. Let's try cutting all those non-teaching positions first before raising taxes on my soda.

The dangerous bills:

  • HB1934-Reciprocal beneficiaries is nothing more than another attempt at legalizing gay marriage.
  • HB2038-Legalizing gambling.
  • HB2040-I'm a dog owner, and can see this being abused.
  • HB2114-This is unacceptable because it requires less votes to pass County bills than Legislative bills.

Take the $ out of politic$

Dear Editor,

"No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session. –Mark Twain (1866)."

Times really haven't changed that much, have they? With an election year coming up, most of the legislature is scrambling trying to make it look like they have done something, anything, to create jobs, improve citizen lifestyle and make Hawaii a better place to live. The truth is these politicians have no new ideas, since October 2008 they have done absolutely nothing to improve the economy.

State House Speaker Calvin Say, on Monday “challenged the public to identify priorities and, if people do not want to pay more taxes and fees, to be prepared for the consequences.” This statement is an example of how arrogant and disrespectful politicians have become and how they see the public as merely beneath them. They seem to have their ideology turned around. Calvin Say talks as if he thinks we work for him. How did this happen? The truth is politics have not been serving the people for a long time. They have become corrupt, self-serving public interest machines that are swayed by the only thing they care about, the almighty dollar.

I have to agree with a person who commented on putting the cap of spending for campaigns at $500 to each candidate. This will have several effects,

#1 politicians will not be able to buy their way into office like Governor Lingle did, or Mayor Hannemann is trying to do right now (via his choo-choo),

#2 hopefully this will send a message to these politicians that are looking to line their pockets that that they are in the position or running for said position to serve us, the public and constituents.

Now things have gone on so long that it is common place for politicians to be corrupt and have this illusion that we work for them and that if we want what is rightfully ours, we have to pay or go without those services that are supposed to be equally guaranteed.

Send a message to Calvin Say and all incumbents who have long forgotten who they work for; tell them you do not want taxes increased, ask them why they received a 31-36% pay increase when the rest of state workers took a pay cut, tell them you do not want rail (we cannot afford it if we cannot afford to pay educators to go to work five days a week), ask them why the DOE has 8,000 employees who do not even see or interact with children on a regular basis at all, explain to them there are others ways of bringing in revenue besides tourism, emphasize that if you politicians worked for the people and stopped pointing fingers, maybe we wouldn't be in such dire straits.

Otherwise we have no one to blame but ourselves when they economy continues to go belly-up and the governor calls for more layoffs.

Pro-railers claim naysayers are small minority

Dear Editor,

Did anyone catch the opinion section of the Honolulu Advertiser on Tuesday, January 12th titled, "Time for silent majority to step up on rail?"

I was wondering whose opinion this was anyway? I noticed the article was anonymous. It seems as though the Honolulu Advertiser, our elected officials Senator Inouye and Mayor Hannemann would just like the public to accept rail.

They have tried to jam it down our throats since day one, spending millions of dollars of taxpayer’s money on a pro-rail campaign, an idea that has never sat right with this voter. It would appear now to this reader as though our elected officials are desperately saying, "Come on, I know it's a burden and an eyesore, but you voted on it, so please let us build rail, please. I know you have no money, but all it will cost you is $12,000 dollars a piece." Well, they are probably not saying that last part.

However, when you look at some of the figures, such as 6 billion dollars for a train that only 7% of the population will use, it just doesn't seem right. I don't want rail, I think it will ruin the environment and cause massive developments just adding more traffic, not to mention make the island look a lot less beautiful causing less tourist to come.

Is there a silent majority? I know there are construction workers that need jobs, but the Advertiser, Senator Inouye and Mayor Hannemann would have you believe the "naysayers" are a small minority and I really don't think that's the case.
